This page describes how the product works. It is not a contract and it is not legal advice. Before taking real money, have a lawyer review this alongside the partner agreement.

What a pint is

A pint is credit at one brewery, worth the amount shown when it was bought. It buys one beer up to that value, whatever the bar is pouring. It is not a specific beer, and it is not cash: there is no change, and it cannot be redeemed for money.

The brewery decides what a pint is worth at each of its taprooms, sets its own redemption rules, and checks ID at the bar exactly as it would for any other drink. You have to be of legal drinking age to redeem one.

Pints do not expire

There is no expiry date and no dormancy fee. A pint stays good for as long as the brewery that sold it is pouring. If a brewery closes or leaves the platform with pints outstanding, get in touch and we will work it out with them.

Where a pint can be redeemed is fixed at the moment it is bought. If a brewery later changes its rules, pints already sold keep the terms they were sold under.

Fees

You pay the pint value plus what it costs to run the card, and that is the whole of it. There is no separate charge from Share a Pint on your side. For a $9.00 pint:

Pint value$9.00
Card processing, to the card network$0.58
Total charged$9.58

Processing is quoted at the rate the card network charges and is what you are actually billed; it is not marked up. Share a Pint is paid by the brewery, as a service fee on the sale, out of what the brewery receives. That arrangement is between us and them and costs you nothing either way.

Who you are actually buying from

The brewery, not us. Each payment is created on the brewery's own merchant account, which makes them the merchant of record. Their name is what appears on your card statement, not Share a Pint. We act as the storefront and are paid by the brewery for it.

That also means we do not hold your money and cannot refund you directly. If something has gone wrong, tell us and we will take it up with the brewery, but the refund itself comes from them.

Community boards

A pint on a board has no named recipient. The brewery writes who it is for, and its staff decide at the bar. Contributions are anonymous: the person who takes a pint down does not learn who put it up, and nothing is announced.

Because a board pint has no recipient, it cannot be transferred, tracked, or reclaimed once bought.

The link is the credential

A recipient does not need an account. The link in their email is what opens the pint, which means anyone holding that link can redeem it. Send it to the person it is for and nobody else. Attaching it to an email address, which the pint page offers, means a lost link is recoverable.

The code shown at the bar rotates every thirty seconds and is only live for three minutes after the recipient taps Redeem. Nothing is spent until a member of staff acts on it, so opening the screen by mistake costs nothing.

Privacy

We store what the product needs and not much else: the buyer's name and email, the recipient's name and email or phone if one was given, the note written on the card, and the record of what was bought and when it was poured.

Card details never reach our servers. Payments are handled by Stripe, and what we keep is an identifier for the charge. Breweries see the buyer's name and email for orders at their own taprooms, the recipient's name, and their own redemption records. They do not see anything about other breweries.

We do not sell anything to anybody, and we do not use the note on a card for anything other than showing it to the person it was written for. To have your data removed, email [email protected]; we will keep the minimum needed to honour outstanding pints and to meet tax and accounting rules.

Drinking

Pints are redeemable only by guests of legal drinking age, verified at the bar. A brewery can refuse to pour one for the same reasons it can refuse to serve anybody, and it does not owe an explanation. Please drink responsibly, and do not buy a pint for somebody who should not be having one.
